HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — As spring gears up to shift into summer, you can expect to see more people spending time out on the roads. In Maryland, state officials want drivers to be especially safe where motorcycles are involved.
At the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Hagerstown Tuesday, officials were joined by advocates for motorcycle safety with a clear message: Be careful!
In the last five years, more than 400 motorcyclists have been killed on Maryland roads — with just under 100 in the last year alone, according to crash data from the Maryland Department of State Police.
Since the beginning of 2025, seven motorcyclists have died in crashes.
With more people taking their motorcycles out as warmer weather approaches, state officials urge people to be cautious as they drive.
